Congrats to Heath Valliere on his 1st wahoo ever. It weighed in at 116#. Of our 8 wahoos today, one would not qualify for Virginia citation at 27 pounds. We also had a 95#, an 83.5#, a 65#, a 57#, a 49#, and a 37.5# wahoo. We had a limit of yellowfin tunas with the biggest 2 at 70# and 68#, a king mackerel, and some blackfins. 116# is the wahoo of a life tme and a helluva first one.
Crazy good fishing offshore out of Virginia beach now.
Nate Creasy, Matt Metelsky and I did an overnight trip yesterday and today. Yesterday we targeted swords. After a long fight, we broke off the biggest sword I have ever seen in person. 500+# or so. The swivel to the leader got buried under the braid and pow! She gone watched it just swim away about 50 feet from the boat. Then we set the drift at night. Caught a pile of sharks and a nice 150ish sword. Went bottom fishing this morning and caught a bunch of nice blueline tiles up to 18#, some rosefish, a couple small goldens. Then went trolling this afternoon and every marine mammal and every yellowfin tuna in the atlantic ocean, along with a couple wahoo and a couple mahi were ganged up in that 77 degree water in the upper 200's. Yes.
There is 77 degree blue water in late october off virginia beach- and its HOLDING. Awesome fishing. Awesome weather. Fun times with the dudes.Fished 2 full days offshore, got a box full of fish, and burned about 150 gallons of diesel. Wish we would have caught that big sword though.
Today was one of those days where you might have to call your banker and check your credit score before you call the fish cleaner.
Before I get started with the report, let me remind you all that my full day wreck fishing trips during the fall are $1200/day during the week and $1350/day on weekends This trip is only available in a full day and while I may possibly do some walk ons, I do not actively schedule walk ons. They are always last minute. This fishing is just getting started and will last all the way through the fall.
Today started off scary. My group today was my mate Shawn's dad and friends. We pull put of the slip headed towards the fishing grounds, get ten miles out and Jimmy is laying on the ground unconscious showing signs of a heart attack. He is 52 years old, a diabetic with heart disease, and he just had 2 stents put in his heart in january. So we called shore, had an ambulance waiting and ran wide open back to the dock. Jimmy turned out to be ok, and it was just a bad reaction between the dramamine he took and some of the other meds he takes. Once we had Jimmy safely under the care of EMT's, we left Jimmy to seek further medical treatment and we headed back out.
We checked a couple places and it was nothing here, nothing there, little here, little there. Then we got to a spot a little inshore of where we would typically fish and it was game on. Within 2 hours of fishing, we caught a limit of 90 nice seabass up to 4 pounds, we caught a limit of 24 flounder up to 24". We caught about a dozen triggerfish including a 5# Virginia citation and another 4# virginia citation. And we also caught a couple weird things like a blowtoad, a false albacore on a flounder rig, and a double header on a sea bass rig of 2 foot long remoras.
And just for good measure, on the way in we saw a pack of cobias and caught a nice 45"er outside the inlet.
So even though the morning started off tough, it ended great. Most importantly Jimmy is o.k. but we have a ton of fish on the dock, everyone had a great time, and we are all going home with more meat than Arby's.
I have plenty of dates available for charter and we are currently booking these trips. Fall fishing in Virginia Beach can be some of the best fishing anywhere, and like I said, this great fishing on the wrecks should continue at least past thanksgiving. Give me a call
These 3 cobias survived hurricane Dorian only to die the next day from hurricane Birdman. Add three to the Toro's death toll! Now they are R.I.P. in the cooler! LIMIT!
The weather is absolutely gorgeous out here today and while the seas calm down, the fishing isn't great, but it's good enough. The water is a little muddy and we havent had a king mackerel bite this am, but the cobias made up for it. Still plenty of fishing time for us today, but we have seen 6 cobias, 5 bites, 4 caught, 3 on ice.
We have plenty of availability, so yall give me a call and book a trip. 7577496008
Started the morning off right! Today is gonna be a good one! Ain't nothing better than fishing in the fall in Virginia Beach. The tourists have all gone home and the kids have started school but the fishing is just getting better every day, and there are no crowds fighting for fish. These cobias are stacked up in packs right now and between the cobias and king mackerel, we should have excellent fishing inshore for the next couple of weeks. After that, it will be time for black sea bass, triggerfish, and flounder on the wrecks.
We have plenty of dates available for charter. Give me a call at 7577496008
