Springtime is here and now people are making their summer vacation plans to come to Virginia Beach and I hope many people are considering charter fishing in Virginia Beach while they are here as tourists on vacation during the summer, but we are already starting to see some people coming to Virginia Beach to take charters. We are doing some charters, mostly with locals and the spring break crowd, but there has been a little bit of fisihng going on as things start to heat up around Virginia Beach. We have been fishing mostly 3 and 4 hour inshore trips around the inlet and have seen some pretty good fishing for puppy drum. There has also been some trout, bluefish, flounder, and even a striper or two located around rudee inlet. Out on the wrecks we are seeing some tautog and sea bass, but remember that tautog goes out of season may 1 and sea bass dont come into season until may 15. There have also been some encounters with big red drum and big black drum by anglers fishing at the mouth of the chesapeake bay up by the eastern shore. All in all, the inshore fishing is getting better and better by the day for our groups fishing on inshore fishing charters out of Virginia Beach. We are currently booking inshore fishing charters on board the charter bot " toro" out of the virginia beach fishing center at rudee inlet in virginia beach and we will be booking charters throughout the summer. We are also booking offshore charters and overnight charters on the 57' underdog! To make sure you get a prime date reserved, book now. Call captain Jake at 7577496008 and book your virginia beach fishing charter today! Here is a photo of a great family inshore fishing trip we did a couple days ago where this kid caught a whole bunch of puppy drum.

Sorry for the lack of fishing reports lately, we have been busy fishing every day. The inshore fishing charters have seen very good fishing out of Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach so far this summer. We are still seeing excellent excellent Spanish mackerel fishing on a daily basis. A couple days back, we caught the largest Spanish mackerel I have ever caught in Virginia. We catch several thousand Spanish mackerel per year in Virginia Beach with Matador charters, but this 6 pound 12 ounce Spanish mackerel we caught the other day is by far the biggest I have ever caught in Virginia and so far for 2016, it is the biggest Spanish mackerel anyone has caught in Virginia. On our inshore fishing charters we are also seeing very good fishing for taylor blues. We have caught a good number of cobia on recent inshore fishing charters. Giant schools of huge red drum have been wandering around in the inshore waters off Virginia beach. We have even seen schools of tarpon several times off the sandbridge beach while fishing inshore. Flounder and croaker fishing remains consistent anywhere in the inshore waters of Virginia.
Offshore fishing we are seeing great numbers of dolphin 20 to 40 miles off Virginia beach and there are even some yellowfin tuna still available. Marlin fishing has been decent out in the deep. and Deep drop fishing charters have seen great catches of tilefish, sea bass, grouper, and golden tilefish.
We still have plenty of charter fishing dates available throughout the summer. Give us a call at 7577496008 and we will get you booked for your fishing charter.

The fishing season in Virginia Beach has started and Matador charters is booking trips and fishing.
Inshore, we have been charter fishing around rudee inlet. The fishing hasnt been great and hasnt been terrible, and has been very hit or miss in the inlet. on our inlet fishing charters in rudee we have been seeing mostly bluefish, but some puppy drum, speckled trout, and flounder have been around as well. The flounder fishing has been steadily improving by the day and in the next couple days flounder should become plentiful enough to be a reliable target species.
On our inshore charter fishing trips we are starting to see a couple of options becoming available. Red drum and black drum have begun to show on the eastern shore of Virginia around fishermen's island. These charter fishing trips are best in the evenings and are a good option for those who want to catch a trophy fish. a good drum trip results in a couple of bites at best and its definitely quality over quantity. Matador charters will be booking drum charters through may.
Also on our inshore charter fishing trips we have been doing some wreck fishing charters. Wreck fishing is really great right now and its fun and we catch a lot of fish, but the only problem is that most of the fish we are catching on the wrecks are black sea bass that are out of season until may 15. When the black sea bass season opens may 15th we will see and abundance of sea bass for our inshore fishing charters. We have also been catching some tautog (blackfish) on our wreck fishing charters, and we can keep tautog, but the results vary from trip to trip. Some days we catch a lot of tautog. some days just afew.
Offshore we are seeing gulf stream fishing charters beginning to pick up some yellowfin tuna and bluefin tuna, and some mahi mahi in the catches to the south as well. There are sharks available offshore too. Offshore trolling charters should continue to improve daily and can be very productive early in the season when the gulf stream moves within range.
We also offer deep drop fishing charters for tilefish and grouper and there should be plenty of tilefish available through the summer.
We have charter trips available now through the entire summer give me a call at 757-749-6008 and get your Virginia Beach fishing charter booked.

We finally have something to fish for offshore. It seems like this winter has drawn on forever, but now the bluefins have arrived and we have something to fish for. There have also been some yellowfin tuna out in the gulf stream and we even caught a mahi mahi last week. It really refreshing to see some nice weather and see fish starting to show up offshore. The deep drop fishing has been good offshore all winter, but the weather has been poor.
Inshore, most of the attention now has been on tautog aka blackfish, but there are some sea bass around as well. Sea bass are currently out of season and must be released. Spring is just around the corner though and we will see more fish arriving daily. This year we will be spending the month of april in Hatteras. There is plenty of fishing in april in hatteras for mahi mahi, and even an occasional marlin or mako. We have plenty of dates available for booking in Hatteras in april and we are currently booking our Virginia Beach summer charter fishing season. We are booking charter fishing trips from the Virginia Beach Fishing Center at Rudee Inlet. Though many of the better dates are booked, we still have a good deal of weekend dates and holidays available. We are booking half day inshore trips, three quarter day inshore chart fishing trips, full day inshore charter fishing trips, and offshore charter fishing trips. We have overnight fishing trips available, as well as late day offshore fishing charters for bigeye tuna at the norfolk canyon. Give me a call at 757-749-6008 for booking inquiries and reservations or just questions. Thanks, capt. Jake
